If this was a WWE wrestling match, it’ll probably be aired on RAW as the fight of the decade. This would be a handicapped match between PKR adviser Anwar versus BN tag-team champion Najib and Abdullah. The referee? The chairman of the EC, Ab Rashid Rahman. This is one show I wouldn’t want to miss!
26th Aug 2008 will be marked as a day when the fate of 27 million Malaysian are decided by 58,459 voters.
Yes, 58,459 voters will decide the fate of the nation. Permatang Pauh, is going down in history as the constituency that would “Bring a new dawn for Malaysia” or watch the sun set.
Like a tsunami, the second wave is far more powerful than the first. Will this second election after the first on 8th March deliver the after shock of the first wave? Are the effects of the first political tsunami still as powerful and reverberates with the echoes of change, transparency, accountability, good governance, and fair and equitable sharing of wealth? Or has the euphoria died? Has the people decided that it had made a mistake, and that the only reason PR has won was because the people were only protesting against BN?
Since 8th March, Malaysia’s political scene has been as unstable and rocked by aftershocks much like Acheh and the whole of Indonesia after being hit by the Tsunami on 26th Dec 2004.
Suddenly, Malaysia has woken up to a new reality! Political news that we see on TV and read about Pakistan, Thailand, The Philippines and many third world African countries are unfolding right before our eyes.
Accusations of murder, sodomy, corruption are a norm. Slurs, name calling, and exposure of abuse and misdeeds while in power have hit the headlines.
Politicians from both camps are going all out to undermine one another at all costs to ensure a win or a reduction in majority. And what about the third candidate from AKIM? What about him? He’s probably relying on sympathy votes and votes that would other wise be spoilt to go to him. Probably…
Before Permatang Pauh goes to the polling stations and decide the future of the country, the voters need to decide who their elected representative will be.
On one hand, is the once Deputy Prime Minister who has fallen from grace in 1998 due to charges of sodomy and corruption. On the other is not Arif Shah, but Najib and Abdullah who is vying to stay in power for as long as they can.

Let’s face it, nobody is an angel and Anwar too is not saint. I’m sure that he has made decisions and acted in ways that may have helped a certain privileged few. He may have been a pro this or an ultra that, he may have given perks and benefits to his friends.
Najib? Well, I’m not going to mention it here. You’ve heard it and read enough of it.
Abdullah? He loves and trusts his Son-in-Law. Plus his last name is a legacy to the new internet urban dictionary meaning to over promise and under deliver.
The question is, how much longer are we going to leave the country be left on automatic? How long more will we allow our country’s wealth be pocketed by a handful of people. How long will we allow the economy to be mismanaged. Have we forgotten Vision 2020? A goal set by Dr. Mahathir for Malaysia to reach developed status by then? Have we forgotten how it felt to be really proud of our achievements and all our goals were aligned to achieved that one vision?
Hard times call for tough decisions to be made. We are faced with rising cost of living, high food and oil prices, falling purchasing power, and an uncertain future economic outlook. During these tough times we need a leader who can rise to the occasion, put us in high hopes, and steer us away from this storm to a new glorious frontier.
Do you believe in change? The American people do! Barack Obama is bringing “Change We Can Believe In”. I do believe in it and I want to see that change!
Who of the three would you choose then? 5 year tag-team champions Najib and Abdullah or handicapped Anwar?
Permatang Pauh, please decide wisely. DON’T let 27 million Malaysians down. Bring the “Change We Can Believe In”.
